Three questions across this arc: (1) what powers Perplexity Finance, (2) can we access Rogo's "Trusted Data" providers, (3) TrendSpider teardown + real UI. Context: MVP build of ViskaFront — personal-use tiers fine now, commercial licenses deferred to funded phase.
Perplexity Finance is an aggregator + thin LLM narrative layer, not first-party data:
| Layer | Vendor | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Core market data | Financial Modeling Prep (FMP) | quotes/fundamentals/ratios/sector/crypto |
| Options | Unusual Whales | self-serve ~$48/mo |
| Earnings | Quartr (transcripts/audio) + Fiscal.ai (rev/EPS) | both API sales-gated |
| Estimates | S&P Global | enterprise |
| Prediction mkts | Polymarket | free API |
| Charting | TradingView | embedded widgets |
| Account linking | Plaid | per-product pricing |
| AI | Perplexity Sonar + "Computer" | LLM over the aggregated data + web news |
License gotcha (vendor-verified): FMP's advertised $19–149/mo tiers are Personal-Use-only; showing FMP data to fund clients needs a negotiated "Data Display" agreement (price = "Contact Us"). Sonar has no finance data API — it's a web-grounded answer API only ($1–3/1M tokens). Takeaway: the "AI-native" feel = LLM synthesis over a bought data plane. Fully reproducible.
Rogo markets an institutional data layer. Most of it is not reachable by a small MVP team:
| Provider | What | MVP verdict |
|---|---|---|
| SEC Filings (EDGAR) | 10-K/Q/8-K, XBRL facts | ✅ FREE — data.sec.gov, no key, just User-Agent header |
| Real-time Web & News | news/sentiment | ✅ FREE tier — NewsAPI / Marketaux / Benzinga-basic |
| Transcripts | earnings calls | ✅ self-serve ~$99–150/mo (FMP or API Ninjas) |
| International Filings | non-US registries | ✅ self-serve ~£2,250/yr (OpenCorporates), free if non-commercial |
| Daloopa | AI-extracted fundamentals | 🟡 free tier = 3 data sheets (demo only), API paid/undisclosed |
| Quartr | earnings audio/transcripts API | ❌ API sales-gated (free consumer app only) |
| LSEG (Refinitiv) | market data terminal+API | ❌ enterprise, ~$150–400K/yr est |
| Dow Jones (Factiva) | news/newswires | ❌ enterprise, API behind contract |
| FactSet | prices/fundamentals/estimates | ❌ enterprise, 5-figure+/seat |
| S&P Capital IQ | fundamentals/entity | ❌ enterprise, custom quote |
| PitchBook | PE/VC private-market | ❌ enterprise, $12–70K+/yr |
| Preqin | alternatives/private-capital | ❌ enterprise, $120–250K+/yr |
Wire now (MVP): EDGAR (free) + news APIs (free) + FMP/API-Ninjas transcripts (~$99–150/mo) + OpenCorporates (~£2,250/yr) covers filings/news/transcripts/international. Defer to funded: the six institutional vendors (LSEG/DowJones/FactSet/CapIQ/PitchBook/Preqin) + Quartr's API — all sales-gated, five-to-six figures/yr each. Enterprise $ figures are third-party (Vendr/Costbench) estimates, flagged — directionally "expensive/enterprise-only," not exact quotes.
Rogo vs Perplexity contrast: Rogo = institutional/IB tier (FactSet/CapIQ/PitchBook). Perplexity = consumer/retail tier (FMP/Unusual Whales). For a Viska MVP, the Perplexity-tier stack is the accessible one; Rogo's stack is the "someday, when funded and selling to institutions" target.
Proposition: automates the technical analysis manual tools leave to the user — algorithmically draws up to 2,000 trendlines/S-R/Fib across timeframes, proprietary Raindrop charts (volume-in- candle), no-code Strategy Tester (backtest 50+yr → deploy as alert "bots"), Market Scanner (natural-language, multi-factor), Seasonality, options. Positioning: "all-in-one market research & trading software" for active retail technical traders. Not a broker (bots fire alerts, not trades).
Pricing (vendor-verified 2026-07-06, annual $/mo): Standard $52.38 · Premium $56.42 (most popular) · Enhanced $75.64 · Advanced $132.68. Monthly is higher ($82/$137/$183/$321). Tiers differ by capacity (workspaces/bots/alerts/backtest depth), not features. Add-ons: real-time US equity (pro) $29/mo, futures $7.50, options $9.50, backtest-depth $39. 14-day paid trial (72h refund).
Data: NYSE/NASDAQ/ICE/CBOE/Polygon/IEX equities (61k assets), crypto (170+ exchanges/28k pairs), forex (3.2k), futures (CME/NYMEX/COMEX/CBOT). Fundamentals from Morningstar/Zacks/Benzinga. Real-time free for non-pro; pro pays NASDAQ fee. API is inbound only — bring-your-own-data (connect Polygon/AlphaVantage/Yahoo) + JS custom indicators; no data-export API to pull their data out.
AI — the fleet-relevant part: "Sidekick." Agentic assistant, model choice = Claude (Anthropic, DEFAULT) + Gemini + ChatGPT. Sees the user's open charts/indicators/backtests, pulls live prices/ fundamentals/SEC filings/transcripts/insider trades/options/news, and acts — builds scans from plain English, writes JS indicators, sets alerts. 25 free msgs/mo bundled; paid Basic $49 / Plus $129 / Max $349. This multi-model, tool-using, sees-dashboard-state assistant is the exact architecture pattern for ViskaFront's AI layer (which already has a FaceAgent chat).
Reputation: 4.8/5 Trustpilot (650+). Praise: trendline automation, multi-timeframe, scanner depth. Criticism: steep learning curve (2–4 wks), pricier than TradingView, thin international single-stock coverage, 25 free Sidekick msgs run out fast.
Real UI (live-captured, see trendspider-ui/ + gallery):
- 01-dashboard.png — multi-panel dark dashboard: watchlist + 6 auto-annotated candlestick charts
(auto-drawn trend channels) + Unusual Options / News (Benzinga) / Insider Trades tables. Dense,
dark-navy, red/green semantic, numeric-monospace.
- 02-fundamentals.png — fundamentals series picker (every line item), AAPL EPS beat/miss bar+line,
surprise%-vs-3d-price-change scatter quadrant, quarterly Value/Chg/Surp table. Directly relevant to
a fund dashboard's fundamentals surface.
- 03-pricing.png — the 4-tier pricing table.
